Our History

31.03.1957
The official business registration as "factory for development, production and maintenance of electrical and mechanical facilities, machinery and equipment" was made through Gerhard Thürwächter in Kühbach, Germany.

01.04.1957
Starting with manufacturing of agitators and hay trailers. This also includes the development of the first electric agitator "Rekordmix" (see picture below). During the first business year, the farmer Clemens Merk entered the company and therefore offered more assurance.

As the first manufacturer of agitators, the company had customers in the Netherlands, England, Ireland and Norway just a few years later.

1963
The 2. generation of the Rekordmix was introduced to the market in 1963 as Rekordmix B.

1965
Expansion of the company. The company moved in an old farmhouse in the middle of Sulzberg (Germany). The barn was used as factory and had space for 15 qualified workers. During the time, Clemens Merk left the company.

1970
Development of the first tractor-driven agitator "Rührgigant" by Gerhard Thürwächter.

1972
The company was renamed in "Thürwächter Sondermaschinen GmbH". A few months later they had the first major order of 800 electric motors. The export at this state was by 20 per cent.

1976
The company started with the building of new premises in the business park of Sulzberg (Germany). With a market share of 70 - 80 per cent, the Thürwächter Sondermaschinenbau GmbH had a former role in the business of agitators.

1978
Development of the first tower type agitator.

1982
Development of the Rührgigant SG as an alternative for the submersible motors.

1986
Manufacturing of museum displays. After 4 years, both divisions had their own manager but the manufacturing of the museum displays was shut off a little later because of too less customers.

1988
Manufacturing of combined agitators.

1991
Dipl. Ing. (FH) Paul Thürwächter entered the company and was designed as CEO in 1993. He took over the shares of his father in 1998.

1992
The company employed approx. 25 employees.

2000
Optimising of the agitators and construction of new products.
Expansion to America: foundation of the subsidiary SUMA America Inc.

2007
50th anniversary of SUMA Sondermaschinen GmbH & Co. KG. The company was renamed to SUMA Rührtechnik GmbH on the 28th December.

2010
Foundation of the subsidiary BRASUMA Ltda.

2015
Approx. 85.000 agitators were sold in about 49 countries. SUMA has about 70 employeed and the export rate is about 50%.

2017
SUMA celebrates its 60th anniversary.

2019
The export share is over 60% and over 94,000 mixers have been sold to 59 countries.
Meanwhile the company has more than 100 employees.
Start of construction of the new assembly hall.

2020
SUMA expands its agitator technology portfolio with the new PRESSURA pump range.
Inauguration of the new assembly hall with office complex and canteen CASUMA.

2023
Lena Undeutsch (born Thürwächter) is appointed Managing Director. Henceforth, she forms the joint dual leadership with her father and owner Paul Thürwächter.
